No Counting!!!
So... I'm a choir trainer...
After teaching a choir a particular song that was full of intricacies I was asked the question about counting. The question was should the singers count rounds to anticipate the changes as they occur. My answer, if there is a director there should be no need for that. Directors count the flow... not necessarily the rounds that are completed on the album. We are not those people and our congregation may need something different.
This is my position for the Ministry of Music in live performance. The church choir-vocals and band are synchronized by the director. The director should be first in touch with the Lord so that he/she can hear what the spirit of the Lord has in store for the performance. Gifting is great but anointing is better.
After the director is in line with the Lord then these skills are helpful. The ability to be fearless when God adds to or changes your music. Everyone under direction should be able to trust the director to get them from the beginning to the end safely. The ability to hear the whole choir and correct the problems sometimes in performance is helpful. The ability to show strong and loving leadership and a hunger to learn more from the Lord and others who excel at the ministry.
The ministry of music is a thing of utter beauty. It is a gateway into the kingdom of God. When done well the ministry of the church is enhanced. Correctly doesn't always mean that every note is perfect but it does mean that the administrators of the music are competent and anointed.
Stand in the place where God can use you as the director. Become trustworthy in your craft. Become trustworthy to God's plan.
